Phase 1: Area Relationship
Chuck's design for the new addition connects the main living area from one side and the patio from the other. "We wanted to reach the patio quickly," states Peabody. The switch from new to old is effortless and easy. "Close friends who come by have no clue this room was a remodeled addition."
Phase 2: Comfort and Durability With Beauty
Janey and her co-designer Elizabeth Surfroot created a multi-function seating area. The footstool will work as a coffee table but has the coziness of a seat. There is more than enough space for the little ones to hang out on the floor while gaming or watching television. A simple wool mat conceals dirt and resists wear and tear. Padded recliners offer the same role -- beautiful sturdiness. If the red chenille gets damaged, it can probably be repaired. The timelessness of the furnishings justifies the outlay on well-built, good quality objects.
Phase 3: Multipurpose Storage Spots
Janey and Chuck made sure the Smiths had specified spots for their electronic devices. Practical builtin items also add architectural appeal. The television and Dvd player are stored on either side, while the second cabinet stores games.
Phase 4: Daylight and Color Range
Natural light has a strong role in this room due to the various windows. Olive surfaces and harmonizing fabrics fill the room with warmth. Compact halogen lights in the ceiling, together with lamps in three corners, add functional task lighting.
